Why do we get scars, and how do we get rid of them?

It’s important to understand that a scar is the body’s way of healing a wound. Whether this wound is on purpose (ie: breast augmentation, tummy tuck, facelift) or by accident (ie: car accident, burn or papercut). The scar is how this wound is held together and you cannot get rid of it. Think of it as your body’s glue. There are many different types of scars which will be covered in the next video.

But how this scar will look and its final outcome have a lot of variables. Some of these variables include depth of the wound, size of the wound, age of the patient, gender, ethnicity and genetics.

At your consultation your plastic surgeon will not only diagnose the type of scar you have but will also offer different treatment options to treat your scar, giving you the best appearance possible.
