Pedro M Soler MD

Liposuction in Tampa, Florida

Pedro M. Soler, M.D. offers liposuction to the men and women residing in and around Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater, as well as the rest of southwest Florida.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is helpful for removing excess subcutaneous fat which remains resistant to exercise and diet. It helps change your body contours permanently. The most common body parts for liposuction are armpits and upper arms, the area under the chin, male breasts, abdomen, trunk, hips, waist, thighs, calves, inner knees and ankles. Most of our patients are of normal weight, from all over Tampa Bay and are non-smokers. Improved techniques, like Liposculpture, are used with heavier patients for removing larger fat amounts. Depending on the amount of fat being removed from liposuction, many patients may want to consider a tummy tuck to get rid of any loose skin that may remain.

How is lipo surgery performed?

Liposuction produces a permanent improvement in the proportion and contour of the treated areas. A flatter physique with or without clothes is one of the goals of liposuction. Dr. Soler performs liposuction under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The patient goes home with either a compression tape or garment covering the treated areas. Swelling is reduced after surgery by wearing a compression garment for the recommended time of about a month. Once the soreness and pain has decreased, you should be comfortable enough to wear spandex or lycra pants. Any of these discomforts in the initial stages can be controlled with oral pain medications. It will take about two weeks to a month for the bruises and swelling to disappear. The desired result shows within three to six months after surgery. If the patient wants to increase a specific area of their body such as a buttock enhancement, fat grafting can be performed with the liposuction.

Does insurance cover liposuction surgery?

Liposuction is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance. Any risks or individual suitability of liposuction should be discussed directly with Dr. Soler during your one on one consultation. Even though all surgical procedures carry a slight degree of risk, major complications are very rare when undergoing liposuction surgery with Dr. Soler. Any minor complications that may arise do not hamper the end result of your surgery.
