What Is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is a noncancerous growth that occurs in one or both breasts. It occurs in boys and men due to estrogen and testosterone imbalances. The hormonal irregularities will often resolve themselves in babies and teenagers and sometimes in adults. However, if obesity is the cause of gynecomastia, you may require male breast reduction to correct sagging tissue after you lose weight.
Besides hormonal imbalances and weight gain, breast enlargement in males could originate from side effects of antibiotics, antidepressants and other medicines
Why Get Gynecomastia Plastic Surgery?
Gynecomastia surgery is a procedure that removes excess male breast tissue. It may also involve lifting the breast if the gynecomastia has caused the breasts to droop.
If you have gynecomastia and are experiencing pain, swelling and discontentment with your physical appearance, consider consulting a gynecomastia specialist. The procedure will improve your self-confidence and quality of life by giving you a more masculine contour and a flatter chest.
What Does Male Breast Reduction Entail?
Dr. Soler conducts gynecomastia surgery as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia and sedation. He uses excision, liposuction or a combination of the two to remove the excess fat and tissue deposits. He’ll also eliminate any excessive skin during the procedure.
You can go home a few hours after treatment. However, we recommend having a close relative or friend to aid in the recovery process during the first few days post-operation. Use a chest wrapping or a compression vest for a week or two to keep inflammation down.
Does Insurance Cover Gynecomastia Surgery?
Your insurance provider may cover gynecomastia operation. We advise that you contact your provider to obtain pre-authorization. If your insurance doesn’t cover breast reduction procedures, consider a health and wellness financial option like CareCredit.
We treat a breast reduction as a cosmetic procedure upon your first visit, and the $60 consultation fee applies. For insurance to cover a breast reduction, you need two to five years of previous conservative treatment, such as chiropractic and massage therapy. Even with conservative treatments, the insurance provider must pre-approve the treatment, and you may be responsible for co-payments or co-insurance amounts per your eligibility.
Although all surgical procedures have some risk, we’ve not experienced major complications in a breast reduction procedure. If minor complications occur, they will not hamper the outcome.

Discreet Cosmetic Surgery Travel
You should make arrangements to stay for a few days if you reside more than 50 miles away from Tampa. It takes about three to five days for your body to recover after the operation. The small incisions remaining from liposuction will spontaneously close by the third day following your procedure. We’ll remove drains and dressings from larger incisions within five to seven days. Any sutures will dissolve on their own.
During your consultation, Dr. Soler will provide detailed information on exactly how many days you will need to plan for post-operative recovery. If you want us to advise you regarding your stay, reach out to our office.
