Beautiful skin doesn’t come on overnight; it takes time to transform your skin. An easy way to do this is to schedule regular treatments that both improve the overall appearance of your skin and help you combat your most problematic skin conditions. At Soler Cosmetic Plastic Surgery in Tampa, FL, we offer different types of chemical peels that can help treat and correct different skin conditions while simultaneously improving the overall appearance of your skin.
What Is a Chemical Peel Used for?
Chemical peels are versatile treatments that can be used to treat several different skin issues as well as improve the general appearance of the skin. You don’t have to have bad skin to get a peel, but if you do undergo a peel, you will see an improvement in your skin. If you have specific problematic skin conditions, different peels can help target those problems and correct them over time.
Different peels meet different needs and can:
- Improve skin texture and tone
- Even out the skin
- Address sun spots and pigment issues
- Decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improve acne
- Improve the appearance of acne scars
Peels: Treating the Face, Neck, and Hands
When most people think of a chemical peel, they typically think it’s a treatment that is performed on the face. While that is true, and the face is the most common area of the body to undergo appeal, you can also perform peels on the hands and neck. Both the hands and neck are typically ignored when it comes to treating the skin and the signs of aging.
The neck and his hands develop lines and wrinkles and sunspots just as easily as the face does. When you start to focus on improving the skin on your hands and neck, you will notice a big difference.
The face is the most common area that patients want to treat with a peel, and rightly so. Your face defines you. Problematic skin conditions on your face can affect your confidence, but we can help resolve those conditions and help you feel younger.
Whether you have waited a little too long to begin a skincare routine, or you are a skincare fanatic, peels can help you get beautiful skin, especially when scheduled at regular intervals throughout the year.
When it comes to skincare, most people stop at their necks. However, when you are applying nutrient-rich serum and skin care products, you should apply them on your neck down to your chest to help keep the skin hydrated and youthful. When peels are applied to the neck, they can help reduce the appearance of any lines that have developed due to aging and address any sunspots that have resulted from too much sun exposure over the years.
The skin on the neck is delicate and needs special attention. Ideally, the best course of action concerning the neck would be to treat the signs of aging before they begin to show up. Since that’s not always possible, we can help. If you’ve waited too long to care for the skin on your neck, our peels will help you turn back the clock and regain a youthful-looking neck.
Most people’s hands are the least of their concerns; that is, until the aging process starts to affect them. Typically, when most people apply sunscreen, they usually forget their hands altogether. But, the hands receive just as much direct sunlight as the face does, and sometimes even more.
Think about all of the time you spend driving or even just walking out in the sun. Your hands are always exposed to the sun’s harmful rays. When we apply our peels to the hands, we can help make them look more youthful and improve their overall appearance.
What Is a Chemical Peel?
Chemical peels are a form of chemical exfoliation. They use chemical solutions to remove the top layer of the skin during the treatment to reveal a smooth fresh, new layer of skin. There are different types of peels created with different formulations that can be adjusted based on the patient’s skin type and their individual needs. At our office, we use a medium 35% TCA peel.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect?
Results vary based on the type of peel that is used during treatment. As a general rule of thumb, the stronger the peel, the more dramatic the results. As to whether or not you will peel, results vary. Just because you undergo a peel doesn’t mean that your skin will peel. Stronger peels typically result in some mild peeling, which is part of the process involved in getting beautiful skin and amazing results.
Dr. Soler will help determine which peel is right for you during your initial consultation. He will also be able to tell you exactly what you should expect during and after your treatment.
Is There Any Downtime?
Different strength peels provide different results, and the skin reacts based on the concentration used during treatment. The stronger the peel, the longer it will take your skin to get back to normal, but normal will take on a new look. Your new normal will be improved skin and an even skin tone.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Soler will tell you exactly what to expect after your treatment and will instruct you on how you should care for your skin after your peel so that you get the best results possible.
How Many Chemical Peel Does It Need To See The Results?
Everyone is different when it comes to the type of results they get after a peel, but generally, results build upon each other, especially when you schedule regular peels. During your consultation, we will help develop a treatment plan based on your needs and your specific skin type. Regular peels will help you see the greatest improvement in your skin and help you see the most dramatic results.
The Three Types of Peels
At our office, we offer three different types of peels. We offer a light peel, a medium peel, and a deep peel. These peels are designed for different skin types and different needs.
In the same way that not all skin types will be able to handle a deep peel, a light peel won’t be the most effective option for certain skin types. During a consultation, we will analyze your skin and discuss your problem areas to determine which peel will give you the best results.
Light peels can be used on skin types that can’t handle very strong concentrations. These peels are also good for beginners who want to address certain skin conditions but also want to take their skincare to the next level. A light peel is a good place to start if you have never had a peel but want to experience all that it can offer your skin.
What Do They Do?
Our light peels are designed to treat specific issues. When applied to the face, neck, or hands, a light peel can help treat dry skin, improve the appearance of acne, help even out pigmentation, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and light wrinkles. After an initial treatment with a light peel, you will see a subtle change in your skin. However, as you undergo more treatments, you will get glowing skin, which will improve with each treatment.
Who Is a Candidate for Chemical Peel?
Light peels are good for those who have never experienced a chemical peel before but want to start slowly. Those who have acne or minor pigmentation issues or very fine wrinkles will benefit from one of these light peels. During your initial consultation, we will determine if you are a candidate for a light peel to make sure that you get the best results possible.
Our medium peels are a little bit stronger than the light peels. When applied to the face, the neck, or the hands, a medium peel will help treat acne scars, improve the appearance of an uneven skin tone, and help combat and improve the appearance of deeper wrinkles. Since this peel is stronger than the light peel, you will notice that your skin looks fresher and smoother immediately following your appointment.
What Do They Do?
Medium peels build upon the work that lighter peels initiate. They provide more dramatic results and they can take your results to the next level if you have been experiencing the light peels but want to do something a little bit more.
Who Is a Candidate For Chemical Peel?
If you have moderate wrinkles and an uneven skin tone, or you have acne scars that you just can’t seem to get rid of, you may be a candidate for the medium peel. This peel is a little stronger and is often recommended for those who have already experienced the light peel but want to get more dramatic results. During your consultation, Dr. Soler will help determine if you are a candidate for a medium peel.
The deep peel is not for everyone. This peel is designed to help significantly improve very deep wrinkles, blotches on the skin, skin damage that has resulted from excessive sun exposure, and pre-cancerous growths on the face. The deep peel is the strongest and it will give you the most dramatic results. It does take the longest to recover from, but once you see your results, you will realize that they were well worth the wait.
What Do They Do?
These peels have the strongest concentration of ingredients so that they can combat skin issues that are very difficult to treat at home with your everyday skincare products.
Who Is a Candidate?
Since this is the strongest of our peels, not every skin type will be able to handle it. During your consultation, we will review your problematic skin conditions to determine if the deep peel will give you the results you’re looking for. Typically, if you have very deep wrinkles and significant skin damage from too much sun over the years, or if you have any pre-cancerous growths on your face, you will most likely qualify for the deep peel.
